The Lagos State Police Command has detained a Divisional police officer, Mr. Oladipo Afolayan, for the alleged molestation of a lady in his office.
The development comes some months after another DPO in Lagos, Mr. Adekunle Awe, was also arrested on the allegation that he molested a lady, Idowu Akinwunmi, in his workplace at the Onikan Police Division.
Loud in Naija learnt that Afolayan, who is a Superintendent of Police, had only recently been transferred to the Magodo Police Post when the alleged incident occurred.
It was learnt that the girl he allegedly molested was a suspect in an ongoing investigation.
It was gathered that following a report by the victim, Afolayan was detained and brought before the state’s Police Commissioner,Cornelius Aderanti.
Aderanti it was gathered also reported the incident to the AIG,zone two Command, Mr. Umar Manko.
Our correspondent learnt that the matter was transferred to the X Squad, a department at
the state command that is charged with investigating police crimes and misdemeanor.
When our correspondent visited the Magodo Police Post on Thursday, policemen on duty refused all attempts at inquiring into the matter. It was, however, learnt that immediately after his statement, the X Squad transferred Afolayan and the case file to the State Criminal Investigation Department for more investigation.
When the state’s Police PRO, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, was contacted on the phone, he confirmed that the police were investigation the incident, adding that the Divisional police officer would be prosecuted if he was found culpable.
“Yes, we are currently conducting investigations into the incident, As a result of the
sensitivity of the matter, it would be hasty to come to a conclusion just yet. The stance of thePolice Commissioner is that no acts of indiscipline will be condoned whether from the public officer’s of the force.”
